Let’s face it, when it comes to using eyeliner for a bold and dramatic look, nobody did it better than Ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptians were so enamored with the idea of eye-enhancing makeup that it symbolized royalty, protection, and health with a hieroglyph of its very own. Can you say Cleopatra?
But, of course, there’s a bit of a catch. And in this case, it’s the kohl Egyptians established as the go-to ingredient in eyeliner. Sure, kohl can provide rich, saturated color, but da da da… it also provides a very unhealthy dose of lead! And, in case you’ve been too busy straightening your hair to notice, exposure to lead is associated with TONS of health problems, like death and, even worse, mood disorders.
Thanks, Ancient Egypt.
We shouldn’t be too hard on them though, they did have a pretty great sense of style. And we can’t really blame Ancient Egypt for being…ancient, can we?
But this is the 21st century ladies, and there’s just no reason looking gorgeous should cost us our physical and mental health. W3LL PEOPLE feels your pain. Maybe toxic chemicals were okay for women thousands of years ago, but we think it’s time to ask for some modern natural eye makeup. So, we did. We asked W3LL PEOPLE founder and cosmetic dermatologist Rene Snyder to help us out, and boy, did she deliver. We’re ecstatic about the design of our new organic black velvet eye-pencil, which is not only safe for your eyes, but for every last little bit of you.
We’re so entranced by our newest eyepencil that we’ve decided to call it “The Hypnotist.” We’re not saying our all natural eye pencil will make you royalty, but at least you can still be healthy when you want to look like a Queen.
